About Oscar
I was born and raised in Central Texas and currently live in the Austin area. I've been making bows since about 1994 and over the past 15 years I've made well over 600 bows. I attend several shows a year including the Fredericksburg Powwow and Knap-Ins and the Austin Powwow. In addition to making bows I make other primitive items such as tomahawks, knives, and fire pistons.
I mostly work with the Osage Orange wood but have also used others including Pacific Yew, Mulberry, Elm, Hackberry and Walnut. Despite having tried several wood varieties, my favorite wood is still the Osage Orange, which is also the favorite of many other bowmakers. Some styles of bows that I have made include the Indian Flat bow, English Long bow and the Bamboo-backed Osage bow. Each style has unique advantages though I prefer the Indian Flat bow.
Soon after I began making bows I became interested in other primitive items and now make several others. Most recently I began getting interested in primitive fire starters, most notably the fire piston. Again I have tried these out of a few types of wood but still find the Osage Orange to be my favorite.
